On the article Police Investigate Suspicious Package At Diamond Elementary

ReplyPer Tofig, the following recorded voice message was sent to Diamond ES parents during the day:
"Dear parents. This is Carol Lange, principal of Diamond Elementary School, with an important message about an incident that has occurred in our school. This morning, a member of our staff received an item in the mail that she felt was suspicious. We contacted the police and they have responded, along with other emergency personnel. The package has been taken outside of the school and, as a precaution, the police have closed Marquis Drive. We do not believe there is any danger to our students or staff but, as a precaution, we have instituted a Shelter in Place while the police and fire personnel conduct their investigation. I will keep you updated as more information becomes available. Thank you."

ReplyNo need to pick up kids. Tofig said the school would be sending a note home to parents, which we'll have on Patch when it's made available.

On the article SPEAK OUT: County Council Approves Smoking Ban ... Do You?

Greg Cohen
1:46 pm on Thursday, February 14, 2013
From Montgomery County Legislative Information Office Neil Greenberger:
The smoking ban will take place within the next four months. There is not an exact date and this is why:
The Council must literally transfer the bill to the County Executive. It usually happens within 3 days, but there is not an exact date.
The County Executive has up to 10 days to sign the bill (or he could choose to not sign it, which rarely happens, in which case, it would become law without his signature). But there is no exact date when he will sign it.
After the Executive signs it, it becomes law 91 days later.
So, at this stage, we usually say it will become law within 100 to 120 days. -

My brother's first "real" job was waiting tables at O'Donnell's during his summer break from college. (I think he waited your table, Andre!) Great place that will surely be missed.
