Lt. Gov. Brown and wife Karmen Bailey Walker wed Sunday on UMd.'s campus
Wedding bells were ringing at Memorial Chapel Sunday evening for Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and his new wife, Karmen Bailey Walker. The two wed in a private ceremony in the more than 60-year-old church in front of friends and family, according to the lieutenant governor’s office, who added the location was chosen for its perfect size and location. More than 300 guests attended the event. The newly married couple held their wedding reception at UMUC Marriott Inn and Conference Center. Brown’s daughter Rebecca is set to attend University of Maryland in the fall after graduating today from Bowie High School, according to Brown's press release.

Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and Karmen Bailey Walker to wed in College Park this weekend.
Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and his fiancé will tie the knot at Memorial Chapel on the University of Maryland campus on Sunday morning, university staff confirm. Brown's Press Secretary Marc Goldberg said information about the ceremony would not be released until after Sunday. The lieutenant governor, 50, is marrying Karmen Bailey Walker, the director of government affairs at Comcast, according to her LinkedIn account. Greenbelt Patch caught up with the couple in July, when the two appeared at a fundraiser for Del. Justin Ross. The couple became engaged in May 2011, Greenbelt Patch reported. No Valentine's Day weddings this year, though.
Of the roughly 4,000 weddings that happen in Prince George's County every year, about 70 of them are at Memorial Chapel, the centerpiece of University of Maryland's campus. "Most of them are alumni," said Janice Hawkins, who books the weddings. "They were here when they were students, and it’s a beautiful chapel." The chapel is used for concerts, lectures, convocations and commencements, according to the UMd. website, but since July 1 last year, about 50 couples tied the knot there, too, Hawkins said. There are 35 more weddings scheduled between now and the end of June, but some weekends are still open for booking, Hawkins said.
