In a speech celebrating the history of Bowie State University and the struggles of African Americans forced to fight for their education, First Lady Michelle Obama told the class of 2013 on Friday that it was time to "feel hungry" again. “For generations, in many parts of this country it was illegal for black people to get an education,” Obama said, telling tales of students who were threatened, teachers who were beaten and schools that were burned when African American first sought education. “But despite the risks, students flocked to these schools in droves,” she said, speaking to a crowd of thousands at the University of Maryland's Comcast Center in College Park. When and where the county's seniors will cross the stage.
It may only be spring break, but graduation is just around the corner for the Class of 2013. Below, find a rundown of graduation times, dates, and locations for every public high school in Prince George's County. Locally, Northwestern High School will hold its graduation on Tuesday, May 28 at 9 a.m.; High Point High School on Thursday, May 30 at 9 a.m.; and Parkdale High School on Friday, May 31 at 1 p.m. All three ceremonies will take place in the University of Maryland's Comcast Center.

Hundreds of seniors garbed in green and yellow robes graduated Thursday morning in Parkdale High School’s graduation ceremony. The ceremony, held at University of Maryland’s Comcast Center, was a celebration of the students’ accomplishments, and an appeal to succeed in either higher education or the workforce. Principal Cheryl J. Logan gave the keynote address, highlighting the school’s diverse background. Prince George's County students are preparing for graduation next week, several of whom will receive their diplomas at the Comcast Center.
Prince George’s County Public School seniors will proudly accept their diplomas next week, several of them in the University of Maryland’s Comcast Center near Paint Branch Drive. Area residents will want to be aware of heavy traffic due to the ceremonies, running from Tuesday to Friday, according to a message distributed by the UMd. Office of the President. “Traffic will be heaviest at the Campus Drive/Route One, and Paint Branch Drive/Route 193 intersections. Comcast Center court dedicated to former coach Gary Williams.
The University of Maryland had the makings of an upset in last night's game, with Duke University having an unusually poor performance in 3-point shooting, The Diamondback reported. In the end, the sell-out crowd of 18,000 watched Maryland fall in a 74-61 loss in the Comcast Center, newly dedicated to legendary former coach Gary Williams; meanwhile, the prepared stack of celebratory scrap wood on campus went unburned.
