Authorities say a University of Maryland student was lying when she told police she'd been the victim of an armed robbery Sunday on Lakeland Road. According to UMD police, officers responded to the vicinity of the College Park Volunteer Fire Department around 11:45 a.m. on a report of a stabbing. When they arrived, 23-year-old Kaila Brown-Davis reportedly told officers that she'd been traveling to the university's commencement ceremonies when a man brandishing a knife robbed her. Brown-Davis said she had suffered a small cut to her right bicep during the scuffle, according to police. She also provided a description of the alleged assailant. Police found a Bel Air woman dead in her dorm room Monday afternoon.
Update, 2:10 p.m.: The woman found dead in her Kent Hall dorm room was Sarah Hancock, 20, of Bel Air, according to police. Cause of death is unknown at this time and will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, police said. No further information was released. Original story: A college student was found dead in a UMD dorm room shortly after 1 p.m. Monday afternoon. Police say they were "made aware" of an unresponsive student in a Kent Hall dorm room at 1:15 p.m. on Monday. Once on the scene, they found the student, a woman, was dead. Update, 12:56 p.m.: U.S. Route 1 has been reopened in both directions, according to University of Maryland police. Original article: Police and fire officials are urging motorists to avoid the area of U.S. Route 1 and Campus Drive following a "serious" police-involved crash Monday morning. According to Prince George's County fire spokesman Mark Brady, the accident occurred in the 8100 block of Route 1 just north of the gates to the University of Maryland. Brady tweeted that two law enforcement officers on motorcycles suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and were transported to a trauma center. Update, 11:01 p.m.: Major Marc Limansky of the University of Maryland Police Department released the following statement Wednesday evening on the evacuation of McKeldin Library: Today, at approximately 3:00 p.m., UMPD received a report of an individual who approached a McKeldin Library staff member inside the library and made an inquiry which warranted further investigation. Although there was no direct verbal threat made toward the library, the inquiry contained alarming language and was outside of the norm.
