PGCPS Teachers Receive Step Increase, Bonus

The Board of Education unanimously approved a new three-year contact with the teacher's union Tuesday.

Prince George’s County Public School teachers will see a pay increase for the first time in three years thanks to a new, three-year contract agreed to by their union, the Prince George’s County Educator’s Association (PGCEA), and the Prince George’s County Board of Education. Verjeana Jacobs, board chair and District 5 representative praised the agreement in a press release, calling it “a huge victory for our students.”  “Despite having to cope with significant budget cuts our teachers remained dedicated to our students. Though the pay step was a point in the right direction and was helpful; we still have a long way to go. There are teachers who seriously struggling to maintain a living, and things need to get better. Teachers are the most respected yet disrespected profession when it comes to salary and the work that we do.
