Man Sentenced in Shooting Death of UMd. Student

Deandre Ricardo Williams was sentenced Wednesday to 49 years in prison.

A man charged in the fatal shooting of a University of Maryland student in January 2011 was sentenced Wednesday to 49 years in prison for first-degree murder, The Diamondback reported. Deandre Ricardo Williams, 24, was also sentenced to serve 20 years for the use of a handgun in a violent crime, which he will serve concurrently with his murder sentence, The Diamondback reported. Williams entered the College Park home of 22-year-old Justin DeSha-Overcash on Jan. 11, 2011, to rob him of money and marijuana, according to the statement from the Prince George's County State's Attorney’s Office read at a February plea hearing. The man convicted for his role as the driver in the fatal shooting of UMd. student Justin DeSha-Overcash last year was sentenced to 15 years in prison Friday, The Washington Post reports. Stephan E. Weaver, 23, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and using a handgun in a crime of violence when he drove to DeSha-Overcash's off-campus apartment on Jan. 11, 2011 to rob him. Getaway Driver From DeSha-Overcash Murder Scheduled for Sentencing Today

Stephan E. Weaver, 23, of Bowie, faces sentencing this morning for armed robbery and handgun charges, after pleading guilty for his role as the getaway driver in the murder of 22-year-old University of Maryland student Justin DeSha-Overcash. Weaver is scheduled for sentencing at 11 a.m. in Prince George’s County Circuit Court in Upper Marlboro. Deandre Ricardo Williams, 24, of Hyattsville, who is charged with fatally shooting DeSha-Overcash, awaits sentencing in April. Williams Could See Up to 60 Years in Prison for College Park Murder

Hyattsville man is charged in fatal shooting of University of Maryland student.

The Hyattsville man charged for fatally shooting a University of Maryland student could be found guilty of first-degree murder and handgun crimes. Deandre Ricardo Williams, 24, appeared in Prince George's County Circuit Court Friday afternoon, when he pleaded "not guilty statement of facts." Though not admitting guilt, the plea means that the defense and state's attorney agree upon the evidence for charges. The plea also means Williams will go directly to sentencing, without a trial. The man charged in the January 2011 fatal shooting of a University of Maryland student is scheduled to appear in court for a plea hearing Friday afternoon. Deandre Ricardo Williams, 24, of Hyattsville, faces eight charges, including first-degree murder and robbery, related to the death of Justin DeSha-Overcash. Might as well give the guy a plea deal then to actually do your job. Our criminal justice system is a joke. I understand why we do plea deals, but look at balt. You get to the point where instead of going to trial all you want to do is to negotiate the plea deal. Thats not justice.   more ›

Court Dates Set for Justin DeSha-Overcash Murder Case

Court dates are set for the two suspects who admitted to the January shooting of 22-year-old University of Maryland student Justin DeSha-Overcash Deandre Ricardo Williams, 23, of Hyattsville will appear in court at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 26. Williams shot DeSha-Overcash twice in his home, according to court documents. He faces one count of first-degree murder and seven other charges. Stephan Weaver, 22, of Bowie will appear in court at 7:30 a.m. Friday, July 29.
