Authorities say a Maryland State Police trooper was struck by a vehicle in Beltsville around midday Friday. According to Prince George's County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady, the incident occurred in the 10100 block of Baltimore Ave. The trooper's injuries were said to to be non-life-threatening. Baltimore Avenue is closed to traffic in the area of the incident, Brady reported. Correction: An initial report stated that the accident may have been connected with a shooting, but it was later established that the trooper was struck during a high-speed pursuit. Prince George's County police are investigating a shooting that started in the 4700 block of Lakeland Road in College Park Thursday night and ended in a massive police convergence at the McDonald's at 8301 Baltimore Avenue. Police responded to a call of an armed subject on Lakeland Road around 10:30 p.m., PGPD Spokesman Cpl. Clinton Copeland told Patch. Police approached the suspect; a struggle ensued between the officers and the suspect and shots were fired. Although Copeland said it was too early to confirm the details, the suspect eluded police custody, a chase began and everyone ended up a few blocks away at McDonald's near the University of Maryland campus. Toles Cited for Reckless Driving after PGPD Executive Review Panel Prince George's County Police Department (PGPD) Chief Mark Magaw announced Tuesday that county council member Karen Toles was issued a reckless driving citation on the recommendation of the PGPD executive review panels. The citation carried a $510 fine and a six-point driving record penalty, according to Magaw. Toles was traveling close to 105 mph—50 mph above the speed limit along the Capital Beltway, according to WUSA9 and other news reports. Police said the officer who pulled Toles over did not have the proper equipment to cite her for reckless driving during the initial traffic stop. Incident at local hotel started with assault, police said.
A large fight outside the Days Inn on Baltimore Avenue early Sunday morning led to several shots being fired into the air, but no injuries were reported, according to county police. The gunshots didn't hit anyone and no arrests were made, Cpl. Henry Tippet of Prince George's County Police said. The indicent was allegedly started with an assault, Tippet said. No further information was immediately available but Patch will keep you updated as details surface.
