A Hyattsville-area juvenile was arrested in connection with the cell phone robbery of a University of Maryland student on campus Wednesday, according to a UMD alert. Detectives began investigating the crime and identified an address in the Hyattsville-area as the possible location of the phone. The detectives recovered several items linking the juvenile to the crime. The juvenile was later released into the custody of his mother, the alert said.

A female University of Maryland student was robbed of her cell phone Wednesday, University of Maryland Department of Public Safety said. While she was walking through lot 1D, a young male approached her on a bicycle and asked to borrow her cell phone, police said. The student did not hand over the phone and boy grabbed the phone and rode off on his bicycle toward Presidential Drive, police said. The student tried to stop the boy by grabbing his shirt, but after a brief struggle, let him go. The male dropped his bicycle at the intersection of Campus Drive and Presidential Drive then ran toward Adelphi Road and Tulane Drive. The student was not injured. Prince George's County police have released a video from last week's stickup at East Pines Liquor Store in East Riverdale—one in an apparent string of local robberies. The incident occurred on Sept. 25 at around 7:20 a.m. As seen in the video, two suspects allegedly entered the store and pulled a gun on the employees. After restraining them, police said the pair stole cash from the register and fled the scene. Similar robberies occurred on Sept. 22 at Base Liquors in Suitland and on Sept. 4 at David's Liquors in Landover. In one instance, a suspected getaway vehicle was spotted. The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) is seeking to identify a suspect that committed an armed robbery at the Xtra Mart gas station at 5919 Greenbelt Road on Tuesday, July 3, at approximately 11:35 a.m. PGPD is encouraging anyone with information regarding the case (#12-185-1188) to contact Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-8477 or the county’s CID-Robbery Unit at 301-772-4905. Citizens that use the Crime Solvers line may remain anonymous. There is a reward of up to $1,000 for the tip that leads to the arrest and indictment of the suspect.
