County police hope residents can help them identify the man pictured.
Prince George's County Police are hoping the public can help them identify the man pictured in this surveillance footage. According to PGPD detectives, this suspect may be responsible for two other recent bank robberies. On April 24, 2013 at 2:40 p.m., the suspect pictured walked into M&T Bank in the 3700 block of Donnell Drive in Forestville and demaded cash from a teller with a note. The suspect is described as a black male with a light complexion in his late 20s with braided dreadlocks. He wore a black-hooded sweater, a gray or black jacket and green shoes during the robbery. Police say three people assaulted a trio of UMD students before taking their valuables and fleeing.
Authorities say six people were taken into custody Saturday after an early morning robbery in College Park. According to University of Maryland police, three UMD students were walking in the area of Pontiac Street and Baltimore Avenue around 12:40 a.m. when they were approached from behind by three suspects. The suspects reportedly asked if the students had any money. When they did not respond, the suspects assaulted the students before taking their valuables and fleeing on foot, police said. After responding to the scene, Prince George's County and University of Maryland police conducted a search of the area. Authorities say a woman was robbed at gunpoint Thursday night near the University of Maryland's Chemical/Nuclear Engineering Building. According to University of Maryland police, the victim was walking through parking lot around 10:40 p.m. when she was approached by an unknown male. The suspect reportedly pulled out a handgun and demanded the woman's valuables. She complied, handing over cash, gift cards, and other personal items. The man then fled the area on Paint Branch Drive, police said. He was described as wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, baggy jeans, and a covering on his face. Prince George's County police say they've made an arrest in connection with an attempted robbery last month at The Varsity in College Park. Demonte Antonio Spearman, 21, of the 4700 block of Navahoe Street in College Park was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with first degree assault, second degree assault, attempted robbery, and two firearm counts, according to police. Authorities allege that on the afternoon of Jan. 27, Spearman approached a male University of Maryland student in a common area of The Varsity (8147 Baltimore Ave.) and showed "what is believed to be a fake handgun." A 57-year-old man has admitted to killing a Beltsville woman nearly 23 years after the crime occurred, according to Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks. Thomas Lee Posey pled guilty to first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree rape dating to 1990. He was sentenced to life in prison after entering the plea before Prince George’s County Circuit Judge Albert Northrop. According to a statement from Alsobrooks, Posey raped and murdered 22-year-old Margaret Perkins in June of 1990 while she was on a jog through a Berwyn Heights park. Three suspects were arrested Sunday in College Park after attacking and robbing a University of Maryland student, according to Prince George's County police. Officers responded to the area of Shanghai Café (7409 Baltimore Ave.) around 3 a.m. Sunday following a report of an armed robbery in progress. Police said the three men had approached the victim and punched him with metal knuckles. They allegedly rummaged through his pockets before making off with his cell phone and wallet. Officers arriving on scene spotted the suspected robbers, who police said were attempting to flee. All three were caught and taken into custody. A 24-year-old Gaithersburg man, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for robbing nine people at a College Park in 2011, according to Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks. Sergio Hernandez was convicted of taking cell phones, cash and other electronics from people who were attending a poker game, according to The Gazette. The August 2011 robbery took place at an apartment complex near the College Park Ikea. “When our victims and witnesses come forward, it can have a tremendous impact on the outcome of our cases,” said Alsobrooks. “This case demonstrated how much the criminal justice system relies on victims and witnesses.
