The men targeted homes in Oxon Hill and Fort Washington.
Police say three men have been charged in a burglary spree that targeted more than 50 homes across Prince George's County. Anthony Nyrekie Edwards, 40, of the 2400 block of Owens Road in Oxon Hill was arrested along with David Benjamin Neal, 24, of the 2300 block of Owens Road and Jamal Cooke, 21, of the 2300 block of Owens Road. The suspects went to homes in Oxon Hill and Fort Washington taking weapons, computers, jewelry, televisions and other personal belongings, according to Prince George's County Police. At one point they reportedly stole a safe with valuables worth nearly $70,000. Police said a resident helped them identify the suspects by providing a license plate number for a suspect's vehicle. Using red light and speed cameras, targeted stings and other methods, police departments and municipalities hope to prevent pedestrian-related accidents, after a number of fatalities.
Pedestrian-related accidents have seen an unfortunate increase recently, particularly in Montgomery County. There have been 14 pedestrian accidents just this year, five of which resulted in fatalities. There was even one incident in Bethesda where a car struck an infant in a stroller being pushed across a crosswalk. “We, the parents of students attending Bethesda Elementary School, are horrified by the number of traffic accidents and near-accidents in and around downtown Bethesda,” said an online petition launched by Bethesda elementary school parents. “The safety of this walkable haven is at risk.” While there haven’t been as many pedestrian-related deaths in Prince George’s County this year, College Park officials recognize that …

The 30-year-old is the newest and youngest pilot-in-command for Prince George's County police.
Cpl. Ben Conner is Prince George's County police's newest Pilot-in-Command and he's only 30. According to the county's police department, Conner is the force's youngest pilot-in-command as of May 8, when he completed nine months of intensive training. He always had an interest in flying, the department reported, and he was given his first familiarization flight by the PGPD Cpl. Steve Grimes when he was only 16. Conner earned his fixed wing license in Bowie and was an instructor for years, before he joined the US Army Reserves in 2009. He is a 7-year veteran of the force and is currently assigned to the Special Operations Division’s Aviation Section.

Prince George's County Police participated in Project SOLO and Operation Road Runner over the weekend.
Ten drivers were arrested and charged with DUIs over the weekend, when Prince George's County police participated in Project Saving Our Loved Ones (SOLO) over the weekend. Officers focused their enforcement along Rt. 193, Baltimore Avenue, Kenilworth Avenue and Riggs Road, according to the department's blog. There were more than 170 traffic stops and officers also issued 190 citations in addition to the arrests on Saturday. On Sunday, the department's Special Operations Division's Traffic Enforcement Section and Aviation Unit participated in "Operation Road Runner"—which targets speeding motorcyclists. A flight crew from Prince George's County Police Department has been "instrumental" in helping pass a Senate bill that was later signed into law on May 2. According to the PGPD, Cpl. Todd Dolihite and Cpl. Christopher Elrod—pilots on PGPD's aviation unit—helped Maryland senators pass a bill that would "make it a crime to knowingly and willfully shine, point, or focus the beam of a laser pointer on a pilot operating an aircraft." The pilots suffered serious injuries to their eyes on Jan. 8, 2013, after they were blinded by a commercial grade laser, according to police. The officer reportedly flipped his marked SUV and struck a lamppost Monday morning.
The Prince George's County Police Department is investigating a crash involving one of its own officers early Monday morning in South Laurel. According to police, officers responded to the scene of an accident on Baltimore Avenue and Contee Road around 2 a.m. A county police officer driving a marked SUV reportedly hit a curb while trying to turn onto Contee Road. The SUV flipped over and crashed into a lamppost, police said, which in turn landed on several parked cars. Speed and weather may have been factors in the accident, according to the department's initial investigation. The officer, a two-year veteran, has been treated and released from the hospital.

Residents can get rid of their unwanted or unused prescription medicines at local police stations.
As a part of a national initiative, Prince George's County Police and the Drug Enforcement Agency will be collecting expired, unwanted prescription drugs Saturday at some local police stations. This collection service is free and anonymous at the following location between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.: National Drug Take-Back Intiative addresses a public safety and public issue, according to a county police press release.
