As region deals with snow, federal workers can take unscheduled leave or telework.
As the Washington region deals with the first real bout of winter weather this morning, the federal government is giving its employees the option to stay home. Federal agencies are open, but federal workers have the option to take unscheduled leave or an unscheduled telework day, according to a message from the Office of Personnel Management distributed by the notify Me Prince George's alert system.
Information is posted as a precautionary measure.

On Thursday, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) updated its website with information on administrative furloughs in case the fiscal cliff discussions do not produce an agreement. The OPM's communications director said that the furlough guidelines were not "a reaction to any specific action" but were an effort to keep federal workers informed about the possibility of furlough. President Obama and involved members of Congress have cut their winter vacations short to negotiate the looming potential financial crisis. As the comments from Washington seem to be increasingly negative about a potential compromise, many federal workers are becoming increasingly concerned about how the lack of agreement could affect their jobs. Worked for the government, I understand leave. The roads were passable, I had to work, could not just opt out and use leave or sick time. The country is going broke... it was a small amount of snow, no need to cut into production. Man-up!   more ›
