Thousands of fans joined in a flash mob at Saturday's 83-81 win by the men's basketball team.
If you didn't catch Saturday's dramatic 83-81 win over Duke by the Maryland men's basketball team, you may have missed quite the dance routine. During two timeouts—one in the first half, one in the second—the raucous home crowd broke into a flash mob of sorts, performing wild (if carefully choreographed) sequences of dance moves. Selections included "Here Comes the Boom" by Nelly, "All I Do is Win" by DJ Khaled, and—what else?—the outrageously viral "Harlem Shake" by Baauer. Junior C.J. Brown suffered a torn ACL.
University of Maryland starting quarterback C.J. Brown will be out for the season with a torn ACL, head football coach Randy Edsall announced Wednesday. According to UMd. athletic officials, Brown suffered the injury Tuesday night in a "non-contact drill." "To see the work he's put in for this season go away with one cut, one cut in a non-contact drill, a cut that he's made thousands of times, it's just devastating," Edsall said in a statement. "It was a situation where we were running a two-minute drill and he broke through the pocket, was running down field and went to make a cut. … It just so happens that this time his knee didn't hold up and he had the torn ACL," he added. Officials said the FieldTurf surface will include a temperature-reducing technology.
When the Maryland Terrapins football team takes to the gridiron this fall for their first home game, they'll be doing it on a cool new surface with a cool new look. University officials announced Wednesday that Byrd Stadium's playing field will be replaced over the summer with FieldTurf, an artificial material used widely in NFL and NCAA Division I stadiums. The field will be the first in the United States to employ CoolPlay technology, which producers claim can keep field temperatures 15 degrees lower than normal artificial surfaces. The university said that the change would protect the physical health of the football and lacrosse players who use the field while also reducing maintenance costs.
