Man Found Dead in Car at Beltsville MVA

Cause of Lanham man's death unknown; police continue to investigate.

Maryland State Police are attempting to determine what caused the death of a man found in a vehicle parked at the Motor Vehicle Administration building in Beltsville Monday morning. Authorities identified the man as Kevin Lee Francis, 36, of Lanham, MD. Francis was found lying in the back seat of a Volkswagon Passat by a Maryland State Trooper on duty at the MVA. The officer had been approached about 8:30 a.m. by a man who said something was wrong with his friend. Upon reaching the car, the trooper determined the man was dead. No apparent signs of trauma were found.   Francis' body has been transported to the Chief Medical Examiner's Officer in Baltimore for an autopsy. State Police Respond to Increased Traffic Fatalities with Targeted Patrol

The beltway and other high traffic roads will see an increase in trooper presence this weekend.

  Maryland State Police will be on the roads in full force this weekend, targeting potential crashes before they happen. If you’re planning a quick trip, be aware that 22 Maryland State Police Department barracks will be alert and looking for aggressive driving, speeding, distracted or impaired drivers and seat belt violations. The effort comes in response to an increase in traffic fatalities. Traffic-related deaths are up 13.5 percent across the country for the first quarter of 2012, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Man Airlifted From Duvall Field After Falling From Ladder

The contractor lost feeling in one leg after dropping nearly 20 feet, officials said.

A man was evacuated from College Park's Duvall Field by helicopter Monday after taking a fall of nearly 20 feet, according to Prince George's County fire officials. Emergency personnel were called around 8:30 a.m. to the 9200 block of Springhill Lane in Greenbelt after a contractor making repairs to an apartment building slipped from a tall ladder, officials said. Firefighters and medics from the Berwyn Heights and College Park volunteer fire departments responded to the scene.  The man was conscious when medics arrived but told them he had lost feeling in one of his legs, officials said. State's Attorney Indicts Seven Illegal Nightclubs

The indictments were the result of a cooperative investigation by the State's Attorney, the Comptroller's Office, and county and state police agencies.

Seven illegal nightclubs were indicted today as a result of a partnership between Maryland Comptroller’s Office and the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office. The establishments identified by the investigation include: Puzzles Event Center in Suitland, De La Swan Event Atrium on Ardwick Ardmore Road, Let’s Chat in Suitland, Crossroads in Bladensburg, Plaza 23 in Fort Washington, Black Amethyst in Temple Hills, and CFE Club in Forestville. Update: Amber Alert Canceled for Prince George's County Student

The 9-year-old boy was reportedly found with his mother in Reno, Nevada.

UPDATE (7:15 a.m. Friday)—The Amber Alert was canceled on Friday morning after 9-year-old Wuilbert Caceres Garcia was reportedly found safe in Reno, Nevada, according to WTOP. The boy was allegedly abducted by his mother, Silvia Guadalupe Garcia. His father has custody. Wuilbert was taken from Dodge Park Elementary School in Landover, MD, on Thursday morning, police said. The boy is 4 feet tall and weighs 80 pounds. He was wearing his school uniform—a white polo shirt and blue pants—when he was abducted. According to reports, Silvia Garcia was driving a 1993 black Mercedes with a Maryland license tag 8AG0407. State Police Start Commercial Vehicle Enforcement in County

Several state police commercial vehicle teams will be patrolling the beltway.

The Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division Thursday will be conducting “Operation Tailgate, ”an initiative targeting unsafe and overweight commercial vehicles in Prince George’s County. “Operation Tailgate” will target commercial trucks and buses traveling the I-95/I-495 corridor. State police personnel, along with state and local law enforcement and regulatory agencies will be operating stationary inspections and roving patrols in the area. Several state police commercial vehicle teams will be patrolling I-495. State Troopers Issue Almost 100 Speeding Citations in Enforcement Effort

A stepped-up traffic enforcement on the Capital Beltway stopped 195 cars between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Maryland State Troopers arrested three people for drunk driving and one for a drug violation during a traffic enforcement initiative on the Prince George's County portion of the Beltway late Friday night and early Saturday morning. Troopers stopped 195 vehicles and issued 91 speeding citations, according to a press release from the Maryland State Police. Another 11 people were charged with driving on suspended or revoked licenses. The stepped-up efforts were part of "Operation Centipede," the goal of which is to reduce traffic fatalities and injuries in that region.
