Volunteers gathered at Looney's Pub Saturday to raise funds for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
Members of the Prince George's County Fire Department's fourth battalion—including volunteers from College Park, Riverdale, Bladensburg and Hyattsville—came together on Saturday to lose their hair for charity. The fundraiser, held at Looney's Pub in College Park, benefited the St. Baldrick's Foundation, an organization "committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives." Nearly 70 firefighters participated in the head-shaving event, including one who raised an extra $200 by having a design shaved onto his chest. Firefighters collected nearly $20,000 from pledges, t-shirt proceeds, and 50-50 raffles. If you would like to donate to the Looney's Pub St. Baldrick's …

Owners say it was a smooth operation.
While owners Bill Larney Jr. and Steve Litrenta had originally planned for a soft opening earlier in the week, it was delayed until Friday, and they did anything but ease into the College Park restaurant scene. By 6:15 p.m., one hour after Looney’s Pub opened its doors for the first time, a bouncer estimated 200 patrons already streamed inside. The beer had arrived a mere two hours earlier. Larney and Litrenta were granted the beer, wine and liquor license from the county on Thursday. Despite the fast pace of events, Larney said it was a smooth operation. “We’ve had some disappointing openings,” he said. This is the fourth Looney’s Pub the pair has opened, the first three in Bel Air, Canton and Fulton. Back in August, Litrenta told the …

About 200 people stream into Looney's Pub in the first hour of opening.
Update 7:09 p.m.: Food was great, at least the BBQ pork sliders that I ordered. The cole slaw on top made it. The place is hopping, and the owners are calling it a successful opening so far. The customers I've heard from love it. Turns out they only just received the liquor license from the county yesterday, due to a delayed inspection. Beer was delivered just this afternoon, hours before opening. I got to run... This is my last and final update for the night... I have to head to Experience and Enjoy College Park at Azteca Cantina and Restaurant now. Hopefully didn't miss the District 1 county police commander's speech! Pictures later. Update, 6:16 p.m.: About 200 people have entered Looney's Pub in an hour's time, according to the …
