Local Children Learn About Native Americans
Summer camp ended with a "museum" of crafts and lessons.
A group of 8- to 9-year-olds spent summer camp learning about Native Americans, and Wednesday they presented the crafts they made and lessons they learned throughout the six weeks. The camp was held at the Center for Young Children at the University of Maryland campus. They visited the Museum of Native Americans and took a pontoon boat ride down the Anacostia River to learn about the Nacotchtank tribe that lived there hundreds of years ago, said Vera Wiest of the center's support staff. The children also explored the Paint Branch Creek, where they gathered clay and tried catching minnows in nets.
