Teshauna Nicole Jones, 18, of the 8100 block of Baltimore Ave. in College Park was arrested Friday and charged with making a false statement to police. Early on the morning of Feb. 5, units responded to the 4500 block of Paint Branch Pkwy. after a report of an armed robbery. According to police, Jones told officers she had been walking westbound away from the College Park Metro station when a man approached her, brandished a gun, and demanded she empty her pockets. Authorities say a woman was robbed at gunpoint Thursday night near the University of Maryland's Chemical/Nuclear Engineering Building. According to University of Maryland police, the victim was walking through parking lot around 10:40 p.m. when she was approached by an unknown male. The suspect reportedly pulled out a handgun and demanded the woman's valuables. She complied, handing over cash, gift cards, and other personal items. One should never be listening to headphones or playing with a phone while walking alone. People should be aware of their surroundings and of other people at all times. I make it a rule to not be on my phone when I walk home from metro. Not blaming the victim here, but making a point that if you are unaware of what is going on around you you are more easily a target for criminals. more ›

Police are focusing on robberies in College Park.
Though three robberies in College Park Oct. 10 were linked and arrest was made, police do not believe an armed robbery on Oct. 15 was related, according to Prince George's County Police Spokesman William Alexander. But police are keeping an eye out around the University of Maryland campus to make sure no more instances occur. Police are not adding more manpower, but they are focusing the collective manpower already present. "The robbery suppression team has been focusing on College Park in last two weeks," Alexander said. "Patrol officers and UMD are all focused and aware of crimes that have been going on." Police believe the most recent robbery on Oct. 15 may be related to two other robberies in Prince George's County.

A Greenbelt man was charged in two armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery in College Park on Oct. 10, Prince George's County Police said. Police arrested 17-year-old Nico Jaleel Robinson at him home in the 9200 block of Edmonston Rd. in the early morning hours of Sunday.
