Phelps and Gay among Olympians Tweeting support for the teams on the chopping block at the University of Maryland.
Swimmer Michael Phelps and track star Tyson Gay are among the Olympians showing their support for the teams that could potentially be cut from the University of Maryland athletic program, WUSA9 reported.
Dontae Bugg, a UMd. alum and Terp track athlete, has jumped on board as well to show his support for the men’s track and cross country teams, WUSA9 reported.
A from a commission appointed by university President Wallace Loh, recommending that at least eight teams be cut from the program to help balance the ailing athletic budget.
