UPDATE: D'Antoni Wins Election, Is First Honorary Mayor

Jerry D'Antoni, the latecomer to the honorary mayor of Pikesville Patch race, has won the title, taking 50 percent of the votes.

UPDATE (3:44 p.m. Sept. 10) Because Baltimore County communities don't have official mayors, we're electing one for our online community covering Pikesville--Pikesville Patch.

And Monday afternoon, Patch readers elected Jerry D'Antoni as honorary mayor of Pikesville Patch-the first ever in the nearly two-year-history of the online community covering Pikesville.

D'Antoni is president of the Baltimore County and the Pikesville Police & Community Relations Councils, and is a former firefighter with the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company.

Jill Dudley Cohen, the third generation at Mike Wolf Tax Service, came in second with 32 percent of the votes.

D'Antoni is a longtime Pikesville resident who, sources say, is close friends with , who helps the Pikesville PCRC with its Adopt-A-Family Christmas program.

That connection, and the connection with Baltimore County police, may have been what secured his victory, other insiders say.

Not to be ignored, however, are D'Antoni's 50 years living in Pikesville.

Equally important, he was a member of the for 16 years, and is director of the Silvercreek Citizens on Patrol group.

Through his work leading the the PCRCs, he has helped secure grants for the , as well as for .

This election seems to be running parallel to my Grandmother's race in 1967...She lost to Tommy D'Alesandro...another Italian name with a D apostrophe.
