Want a Head Start on Bathing Suit Season?

Marathon training with the Prince George's Running Club begins this week.

On Sunday, serious runners can approach the starting line for the summer session of the Prince George's Running Club's marathon training program.

This program is not for running rookies: Participants must be able to run continuously for at least six miles, and have covered at least 12 to 15 miles per week for the past month.

Runners will be guided through workouts by two experienced coaches and a handful of pace leaders. Runs will take place twice a week. Registration is $100.

Not quite there? That's OK. Registration is also open for "Running Start," a three-month long beginner program that starts in June. Participants of all skill levels will learn to run a 5K, and work to build up endurance and improve overall cardiovascular fitness. Registration is $55.

Runs for both programs are especially convenient for College Park residents: Marathon training takes place primarily in Greenbelt and Bowie, and Running Start hits the pavement around Lake Artemesia. Track runs for both are held at the University of Maryland.

Finally, a consistent, low-pressure schedule is available for those who just want to get off the couch and enjoy some exercise.

Club membership is $20 for individuals, $25 for families and $10 for students. Membership is not required to join group runs, but does come with benefits, like discounts on race registration and at some athletic stores. The practice schedule is posted below.
