Terps' Center Jordan Williams Drafted by NJ Nets

Maryland's leading scorer last season won't return for the Terrapins.

Maryland's sophomore center Jordan Williams was drafted Thursday night by the New Jersey Nets.

He was a second-round pick, 36th overall, and the number two pick by the Nets, who first selected outgoing Providence College guard Marshon Brooks

Late Thursday evening, Williams tweeted: "Shout out to my new teammate @Marshon2 !!! let's get it bro!!"

And then later: "Congrats to all my brothas that got drafted!! The grind don't stop!!" Williams tweeted.

One team's gain is another team's loss. Williams was the Terrapin's leading scorer last season, averaging 16.9 points a game. He was first in the league in rebounds, averaging 11.8.

Williams leaves behind an already struggling Maryland team that squeaked out a 19-14 record last season and now faces a transition as 22-year Maryland Coach Gary Williams announced his retirement in May.
