New Defensive Coordinator Named for Terp Football

Brian Stewart will join the Terps for their 2012 season.

Brian Stewart, a former assistant with four NFL teams, was named as the new defensive coordinator for University of Maryland's football team, according to a Baltimore Sun blog.

Stewart, who was most recently the University of Houston's defensive coordinator, said in The Baltimore Sun he's looking forward to joining the Terps in 2012.

“I’m excited to join [Maryland coach] Randy [Edsall]’s staff,” Stewart said in a news release. “I admired what he did at UConn and saw the beginning of that transformation while I was at Syracuse. We’ve taken similar career paths as secondary coaches and then coordinators. It will be an exciting new challenge implementing our defense in the ACC, a very competitive league and one of the traditional BCS conferences.”
