Crime Victims 5K Run and 1-mile Walk Takes Place Saturday

Locals will come together this weekend to support crime victims at the eighth Crime Victims Fund 5K race and one-mile walk at Lake Artemesia.

Not only will participants enjoy the scenery at one of the in College Park, but also meet State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks, who will address the crowd before the race and distribute awards afterward.

Online pre-registration closes by 11 p.m. Thursday, but race-day registration will be available. Registrants will receive a race T-shirt.

The event, co-sponsored by the Maryland Crime Victims Resource Center and the state’s attorney’s office, raises funds for crime victims who face emergency costs, including crime-scene cleanup and damage, stolen property, replacing clothes destroyed by arson, support groups for victims of violence and families of homicide victims.

“We welcome people just to come out and support the participants and the crime victims, even if they can’t necessarily contribute at this point in time,” state’s attorney spokeswoman Nancy C. Lineman said.

Registration

  • Preregistration closes at 11 p.m. Thursday. Cost is $20.
  • Race-day registration will be available for $25.

Time

  • State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks will speak at 8:20 a.m.
  • 5K race begins at 8:30 a.m.
