UMd. Names New President

Iowa provost Wallace D. Loh will join the university on Nov. 1.

The University of Maryland has announced that Wallace D. Loh, the provost at the University of Iowa, will become its new president.

The university named its new president in an e-mail on Monday night, according to The Washington Post. Loh will take office on Nov. 1 and replaces President C.D. (Dan) Mote Jr., who is retiring after 12 years.

Loh is a lawyer and professor of law whose teaching and research has focused on criminal law and law and social science. He received a law degree at Yale University and a Ph.D. at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
