UMD Event Aims to Enhance Collaborative Public Health Research

The event includes 15 roundtables and more than 30 leading experts.

The University of Maryland’s School of Public Health is holding its first annual PublicHealth Research@Maryland today, bringing researchers together to discuss solutions for healthy lifestyles in families and communities.

The event will occur from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Stamp Student Union on campus.   

Bioterrorism expert and epidemiologist D.A. Henderson, who led the effort to eradicate smallpox in the 1960s and 1970s, will give a lecture and lead forums on polio and bioterrorism.

Students and faculty from College Park and Baltimore will present research findings in a poster session, and awards will be bestowed upon the best student-presented posters at the end of the event.  

There will be 15 roundtables with more than 30 leading experts who will facilitate discussion on central public health issues of the 21st century, including cancer control, obesity prevention and aging.

Registration, which takes place in the Grand Ballroom lobby, is free and includes access to all scheduled activities, though attendance in some sessions is limited. A buffet lunch will also be provided.  

“The School of Public Health is thrilled to be bringing so many top experts together for discussion and collaboration on research about current and emerging public health issues,” said Kelly Blake, the communications director for the School of Public Health.
