Purple Line May Displace Flower 'M' on UMd.'s Campus

The flower "M" in the roundabout has been there since 1976.

Since 1976, the flowered "M" has grown at the traffic circle where Regents and Campus drives meet, but it might soon relocate, The Diamondback reported this week.

The , which will connect New Carrollton and Bethesda with multiple stops in College Park, is set to cut through that roundabout. The "M's" new home might be in front of the Mitchell Building, The Diamondback reported.

The Department of Physical Plant created the "M" in honor of the U.S. Bicentennial, according to the university's commemorative book marking its 150th anniversary.
