"I Want to See if She's Happy."

The first-day-of-school experience varied from parents, administrators, teachers, staff and students at Hollywood Elementary School. This is one of those stories.

It was the first day of Pre-K at for Vanessa Duran. Her older brother, Miguel, was starting first grade.

Even though they took the bus on Monday, Karla Sanchez still went to school to greet her son and daughter at the front doors.

“Because I want to see my daughter, if she’s happy, and make sure she gets the breakfast,” Sanchez said.

She smiled moments later when Vanessa and Miguel stepped off the bus together, hand-in-hand, stopping at the door for a kiss from their mother.

“She looks happy,” Sanchez said, still smiling.
