This conference examines the emergence and evolution of a non-violent and nonpartisan popular demand for advancement of civil liberties and human rights in Iranian society. Conference organizers hope to generate an in-depth discussion of the prospects for institutionalizing the recognition, protection and promotion of these culturally and politically watershed attributes. The proceedings will be organized in such a way as to maximize give-and-take among representatives of diverse perspectives through panel discussions, debates and solo presentations. Thus, the conference aspires to provide an open and free forum to all individuals interested in reflecting on the cultural and political challenges facing the promise of Iran's non-partisan human rights movement. The purpose is to publicize the ideas of the conference participants and stimulate debates and discussions among interested individuals and groups. The proceedings of the conference will be made available to Iran specialists and audiences both inside and outside the country through various media outlets and websites.
