American Legion Honors Students

It's the first time the College Park post sponsored a girls state citizen who was elected girls state governor.

The American Legion Post and Unit 217 honored 35 students this weekend at its 26th annual Youth Recognition Day.

The purpose of the honors is to encourage young people to do well in school, to encourage them to promote Americanism amongst their friends, and to acknowledge their hard work and accomplishments.

Briana Hall, of Mitchellville, a Charles Herbert Flowers High School student, was honored as the girls state citizen. She was sponsored by the American Legion and elected as girls state governor. This is the first time that the unit has had a girls state governor, according to Angie Rodriguez, Americanism chair.
