Rosapepe to Seek Re-Election

The state senator for District 21 had been considering a run for comptroller.

Sen. Jim Rosapepe (D-21) will not pursue a bid to become Maryland's comptroller, and instead will seek re-election to the General Assembly.

Rosapepe said in a press release that he was dropping his interest in the comptroller job after Peter Franchot announced he would seek re-election for the state's top financial post. There had been speculation that Franchot would run for governor.

"With my friend Comptroller Peter Franchot's announcement today that he intends to run for re-election in 2014, I am announcing my intent to run for re-election to the Maryland Senate," Rosapepe said.

The Senator from College Park said he still remains interested in the comptroller position. He spent the previous 18 months exploring the possibility of running.

"I've been humbled by the encouragement and support I've received from Democrats and Republicans, business and labor leaders, environmentalists and educators, colleagues and new acquaintances," he said.

Rosapepe's district includes College Park, Beltsville and the Piney Orchard section of Odenton.
