Riverdale Park Mayor: No Continuance, No Cafritz Backing

With College Park and University Park already requesting Thursday's County Planning Board hearing be delayed, the Riverdale Park mayor will ask his council to do the same, if the Cafritz attorney supports the continuance as well.

The Riverdale Park mayor will ask the town council to request the Planning Board hearing for the Cafritz re-zoning be delayed, according to a note from Mayor Vernon Archer on the RP TownTalk listserve.

That is, if the Cafritz developers support the continuance as well. If that doesn't happen, Archer will suggest his council vote "no" on the property re-zoning that developers seek.

There are too many issues, namely concerns about the impact on traffic, for the council to support the re-zoning that developers need for the project to happen, Archer said.

A continuance would postpone the Planning Board's review of the project, currently scheduled for Thursday.

"This will allow us to continue to work on settling the issues that are not adequately settled, and hopefully reach a point that we can all agree on," Archer wrote.

The Cafritz developers hope to bring a Whole Foods Market, almost 1,000 residential units and additional retail and office space to a plot of land south of Calvert Hills. First, the developers must succeed in re-zoning the area from residential use (R-55) to Mixed-Use Town Center.
