Mitchell, prior to a press conference in Baltimore Tuesday afternoon, said he couldn't confirm or deny speculation about him running for lieutenant governor.

"It's not up to me," Mitchell said.

Gansler is scheduled to officially kick off his campaign on Sept. 24 with a seven day 16 stop statewide bus tour.

There are already two candidates running for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.

Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, who has selected Howard County Executive Ken Ulman as his running mate, and Del. Heather Mizeur (D-Montgomery County) who has not selected a lieutenant governor candidate.
