President Barack Obama to host a town hall meeting Friday at University of Maryland.

President Barack Obama will host a town hall meeting at 11 a.m. Friday at the University of Maryland, according to a White House Press Office release.

University Spokesman Millree Williams said officials believe the discussion will revolve around current federal budget negotiations underway in Congress, as reported by The Diamondback today.

Congress members are butting heads over how to best handle the national debt, as an Aug. 2 deadline to resolve the debate quickly nears. If no compromise is met, the country will be sent into default.

"Just as a citizen who pays taxes, it should be something you should be focused on," said College Park resident Lynn Wilson, who added she is "very much so" worried that lawmakers will fail to compromise in time.

"[Default] won't happen. They'll all work together and muddle something out," said Woody Scally of Landover Hills.
