New Year Begins With New City Council

The papers are signed and it's official: College Park's 2012-2013 Mayor and Council are sworn in.

When the Mayor and Council meetings pick back up in January, three new name placards will be hanging in the Council Chambers of , and three new faces to match them.

Members of the 2012-2013 city council were inaugurated on Tuesday. Newcomers (Dist. 1), (Dist. 2) and (Dist. 3) will begin their tenures, though all three have already served as city leaders. They've all held officer positions with their respective civic associations, among other roles in the city.

Newcomers mean having to say good-bye to others. In November, , who served on council for one term. Dennis was uncontested to fill 's seat, who is . And Robert Day is replacing Mark Cook, who chose not to run this year.

The new councilmembers will undoubtedly be starting the year off with a bang. Though the agendas are yet to be set, two contentious development projects are expected to be discussed and voted on in January: the and the .
