MEETING PREVIEW: Green Team, Stingers and Ethics

The College Park Mayor and Council will convene at 8 p.m. in the council chambers of for its biweekly voting meeting.

Those who wish to attend the public meeting can pick up a parking pass on the first floor of the building, near the entrance.

Consent Agenda

  • Council will vote on an amendment to the lease with . The amendment would defer a portion of the base rent due between Jan. 1 and June 1, 2012. Arrangements to repay the deferment are included in the amendment.

Council will consider amending the fiscal year 2012 budget (July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012), that would allow two interfund transfers ($10,000 each) to provide additional funding for the Business Assistance Fund and the Homeownership Grant Program. A public hearing about the proposed budget change is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. this evening. Passage of the ordinance requires the support of six of eight council members.

Green Team

College Park might soon have a Green Team, a committee of up to 14 members, that would help the city achieve Sustainable Maryland Certification. If the council approves the resolution to form a committee, its members can consist of elected officials, city staff, members of the city’s , area school representatives, campus community members, business owners and residents.

Stingers

Maryland Stingers Women’s Rugby Club team requests an additional day to use Duvall Field—March 17, 2012—not included among the days council already approved.

Ethics

Council will vote on an ordinance that would amend parts of the city’s code of ethics. The changes would provide clarification (Chapter 38, Article I, Section 38-4), the removal of professional sporting event tickets from the list of permissible gifts to city officials or employees (Article III, Section 38-11), and make changes to financial disclosure requirements for candidates (Article IV).

Boards and Commissions

Council will consider the appointment of reappointment of three residents to three different city committees.
