MEETING PREVIEW: Farmers' Market, Sustainable Communities and More

Patch has a summary of College Park City Council agenda items.

College Park Mayor Andrew Fellows and the City Council are scheduled to convene at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers of for the biweekly work session.

Those who wish to attend can pick up a free parking pass on the first floor of the building.

Sustainable Communities

The city has until next Tuesday to submit a sustainable communities application and action plan to maintain its Community Legacy designation after June 1. Staff is requesting that council approve an application seeking to expand the city's sustainable community area from portions of the city to include all of College Park, with emphasis on some parts.

Farmers' Market

The City Council will discuss a proposed commission to manage the downtown Farmers’ Market in the city hall parking lot. The market was started last summer as an extension of the longstanding market on Paint Branch Parkway and is operated by Miller Farms on Sundays.

Action Plan

Council and staff will discuss the progress in achieving tasks listed in the fiscal year 2012 Strategic Action Plan, specifically ones for which the council has primary or partial responsibility to accomplish.

Comcast

Staff will discuss the city’s agreement with Comcast, which is scheduled to end in 2014. The city is assessing future cable needs of College Park. A public hearing is  set for 7 p.m. on April 24 to solicit opinions from residents. On May 9, a needs consultant, hired by the negotiating team consisting of the county and all municipalities, will interview municipal representatives for feedback.

Legislative Update

Staff will submit the last update on Maryland state legislation before the session ends Monday.
