Experience and Enjoy College Park

County police district commander will be keynote speaker.

Residents will have the opportunity to meet with city and public safety officials Friday night, as part of the Experience and Enjoy College Park tour.

The gatherings, aimed at promoting local business, take place in various College Park restaurants. This one in particular might also highlight development.

The Friday meet and greet will be at the just-opened . “It’s in a building that was kind of , and now it’s been turned into a nice, local establishment,” Councilman (Dist. 4) said.

Afzali created the Experience and Enjoy College Park tour with a city resident, hoping it would turn into a series of events where residents and city leaders can talk about issues like development in an informal setting.

Another hot topic in the city, he said, is public safety.

Fittingly, the keynote speaker on Friday is , the District 1 commander of the Prince George’s County Police. Some leaders of neighborhood watch committees will also be present, Afzali said.

This is the 11th tour event, he said.

On average, the gathering draws 30 to 40 people. On occasion, some keynote speakers have brought out larger crowds, like Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-Dist. 5) and University of Maryland President Wallace Loh.

Afzali invites the speakers, but “I never ask anyone actually what they’re going to say,” he said.

“I think often times we don’t really promote all the good things we have going on in the city,” he added.
