Background: On October 7, 2011, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley announced that the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) had received federal approval to proceed with preliminary engineering and preparation of a Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Purple Line light rail transit project. In conjunction with MTA’s startup of this work, the Prince George’s County Planning Department of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is working with local residents, business owners, and other key community stakeholders to develop transit-oriented community plans for five Purple Line station areas.
As the first step in preparing this transit-oriented development (TOD) study, the Prince George’s County Planning Department is sponsoring a series of public meetings that will consider future TOD and improvements in communities along the future Purple Line Corridor that are not within approved sector or transit district development plan areas.
