County Councilmember Marilynn Bland Charged with Assault

Charges come days before Bland is to become a clerk of the county's Circuit Court.

Prince George's County councilmember Marilynn Bland has been charged with assault after allegedly grabbing a council employee earlier in November, WTOP reports.

Bland (D-Clinton) is accused of grabbing Wallace Randy Short, the executive director of the county council's Youth Commission, after he started a Nov. 17 meeting without her. Short said that Bland grabbed his collar and started yelling and cursing, at one point shouting "Who do you think you are?"

The Washington Post reports that Short waited to file charges in hopes that Bland would apologize. Short filed the charges on Sunday.
