Council Agenda: University Book Exchange, Market Retail Study, and More

Here's a rundown of some agenda times for tonight's Mayor and Council work session.

The Mayor and Council work session will take place at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers in City Hall, 4500 Knox Road. The meeting is open to the public.

Anyone who attends the meeting can pick up a parking pass at the customer service windows inside .

  • Maryland Book Exchange

Mayor and Council will review an application for a detailed site plan to renovate the  into a mixed-use area for 341 student apartments (with 1,010 beds), 14,366 square feet of retail space and a two-level parking garage with 329 spaces. Results from a traffic impact analysis are included in the agenda.

The Hyattsville Community Development Corporation (CDC) has submitted a request for College Park to contribute $5,000 to a U.S. Route 1 retail market study, to help guide economic development and planning decisions. CDC is requesting financial support from Hyattsville, Riverdale Park, University Park, the Prince George’s county executive office and the Cafritz Property team. Property has proposed to develop land in Riverdale Park in to a mixed-use retail and resident area that would include a Whole Foods Market.

  • Rent Stabilization

A proposed amendment to rent stabilization rules will be discussed. It’s possible this will be conducted in a closed session.

  • Senior Living Surveys

Mayor and Council will review results from a survey of senior residents at Attick Towers, 9014 Rhode Island Ave., and Spellman House, 4711 Berwyn House Road. The findings measured the satisfaction residents feel for their living conditions; what issues they’ve experienced with appliances, electricity and plumbing; their sense of safety at the dwellings, etc. 

  • Street Spam or Smart Advertising?

City staff is proposing to establish a policy to remove along state roads. On Saturday, a state law went into effect that authorizes College Park to remove illegal signs along U.S. Route 1 and collect a $25 fee for each sign from the entities who hung the sign.
