College Park Tables its Decision on Cafritz Rezoning

Councilmembers said they want to work with Riverdale Park, University Park to get on the same page.

After more than two hours of discussion, the College Park City Council voted 5-2 Tuesday night to table its vote on the .

Councilwoman (Dist. 3) originally motioned to oppose the rezoning of the Cafritz property as a mixed-use town center, and support the rezoning of the property as mixed-use infill with conditions, and express the stance in a letter to the Prince George's County Planning Board.

After listening to the testimony of 17 residents, Mayor Vernon Archer and Councilman Jonathan Ebbeler of Riverdale Park, property owners Jane and Calvin Cafritz and their attorney Chip Reed, council decided it needed more time to take a stance.

They said they wanted more time to make sure they were on the same page as Riverdale Park and University Park.

Owners of the hope to build a Whole Foods, fitness center, hotel and office and residential space in a wooded area just south of College Park.
