City Invites Discussion on US Route 1 Development

Residents will be invited to discuss what they want to fill the vacant buildings lining the city's main corridor.

Residents will soon have an opportunity to voice their ideas of what should fill the vacant buildings lining U.S. Route 1.

The city will organize a forum to share information on several vacant buildings where development has lagged, and garner input from residents about what they'd like to see happen to those buildings.

"We'll work with the residents to talk about what they want to see at those sites," said College Park Director of Planning Terry Schum.

Between now and then, staff will collect information on several of the empty buildings -- such as size, history and who owns them -- and will share that information at the workshop.

Schum was unsure of how many vacant buildings line the main artery through College Park, or which ones will be selected for the workshop discussion.

The event will be held 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Nov. 19, most likely at City Hall. Other details are in the works.
