Cafritz Agrees to Continuance Under Pressure from Three Municipalities

 in the Prince George's County Planning Board hearing on the project, and Riverdale Park Mayor Vernon Archer said at Monday’s council meeting if the developers did not agree to the continuance.

Cafritz developers hope to build a Whole Foods Market, more than 900 residential units, a 120-key hotel room, and additional retail and office space in Riverdale Park, just south of Calvert Hills. But the area is currently zoned for residential use only (R-55). Developers are in the process of re-zoning the area to Mixed-Use Town Center.

The County Planning Board was scheduled to hear the case Thursday, but the involved municipalities have said they want to resolve concerns about the project, chiefly the impact on traffic and specific details for a proposed CSX railway crossing that would serve as an additional vehicular connector for the development.

"I am completely uncomfortable recommending any form of approval until the crossing matter is settled," , adding that he wants the bridge to be built in a timely manner.

College Park Councilwoman , whose District 3 includes Calvert Hills, said in an email that she intends to move that the city re-table its discussion and vote Tuesday night on the Cafritz re-zoning until January.

“The continuance will allow more time for all parties to try to negotiate an agreement on the CSX crossing and other issues,” she wrote.
