21st District Lawmakers Offer Legislative Scholarships

The deadline for the delegate scholarships is coming up at the end of March.

Residents of the 21st legislative district who plan to attend a Maryland college or university next year are encouraged to apply for one of several scholarships made available through their state lawmakers.

The 21st district covers College Park, UMd., Adelphi, and areas north. Sen. Jim Rosapepe and its three delegates are all offering scholarships for the 2012-13 academic year.

To qualify, students must enroll at a two- or four-year Maryland college or university as a full- or part-time, degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student (or attend certain private career schools). An out-of-state exception may be granted if a particular major is not available at a Maryland school.

Delegate scholarships range from $200 to about $2,000 while senatorial scholarships run from $400 to $9,450. Applicants must complete and file the FAFSA by the state deadline of March 1.

Sen. Rosapepe's office is still finalizing their application and has not yet set a deadline. Applicants should email the senator at jim.rosapepe@senate.state.md.us or call him at 301-858-3141 for more information.

District 21 delegates Benjamin Barnes, Barbara Frush, and Joseline Pena-Melnyk offer a combined scholarship.  Applications, along with an official or unofficial copy of transcripts need to be mailed to one of the delegates by March 31. Interested parties should contact the delegates to receive an application.
