Unattended Package in College Park Closes Down Kenilworth Avenue
Police closed down Kenilworth Avenue for about an hour to investigate an unattended package that was eventually determined to be unthreatening.
Shortly after noon on Monday, units from the Prince George’s County Fire Department (PGFD) bomb squad along with patrol units from the Prince George’s County Police Department were alerted to an unattended package at the entrance to the Towers of Westchester Park apartments in College Park.
As units began arriving on the scene, police officers closed down Kenilworth Avenue from Greenbelt Road to Old Calvert Road for about an hour, as a precaution. Residents who live in the complex were asked to stay inside their homes — and vehicles were not allowed to leave.
Bomb squad members located a suitcase in a grassy area near the entrance to the apartment complex. After an an examination, according to Maj. Erroll George, spokesperson for the PGFD, it was determined the suitcase presented no threat.
