Investigation Ongoing for Student Found Dead in Campus Apartment

Police confirmed that a University of Maryland student was found dead in her apartment Thursday morning.

International student Anita Eamsureya was found in her apartment in South Campus Commons Building 3, according to Marc Limansky, spokesman for the University Police. He said there were no signs of foul play or suicide, and the cause of death is unknown.

Limansky said Eamsureya's mother contacted University Police concerned because she hadn't heard from her daughter. University Police contacted Resident Life, and a staff member was sent to Eamsureya's room, where the student was found unresponsive, Limansky said.

The staff member called 911 and emergency personnel attempted some life-saving measures, Limansky said, but it was too late.

"They determined there was nothing there could be done for her," Limansky said. She was ultimately declared dead on the scene and was not transported to a hospital.

Limansky said University Police are investigating, and a medical examiner is conducting an autopsy.

Eamsureya was an international student from Thailand, The Diamondback reported. Neither the university's International Studies or Student Affairs offices had information to share.

The individual working at the front desk of South Campus Commons Apartment 3 was unaware of the incident as recently as Friday morning.

According to her Facebook page, Eamsureya was a member of the class of 2014.

It's evident from Eamsureya's Facebook page and Twitter account that she is a tennis fan. Players Andy Roddick, Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova are listed among some of her favorites. Andre Agassi is listed as her inspiration.

A final Tweet was sent from Eamsureya's account on Monday. It's in a foreign language. According to her Facebook page, she knew English, Thai and Mandarin Chinese.
