UMd., County Police to Hold DUI Checkpoint Thursday Night

Free transportation services will be available to those who need them.

The University of Maryland and county police have a special St. Patrick's Day message for those who plan to hit the bars Thursday night: If you're driving drunk, you will get caught. 

A police checkpoint will be set up on Baltimore Avenue directly adjacent to the university. However, a press release issued by the UMd. Department of Public Safety helpfully notes that the goal of the checkpoint is not to make arrests, but to change behavior. 

To that end, revelers have a few different options when it comes to finding a safe (and free!) ride home:

Sober Ride: Sober Ride will offer free cab rides up to $30 from 4 p.m. until 4 a.m. Call 1-800-200-TAXI to book. 

Shuttle UM Nite Ride: Shuttle UM will offer free curb-to-curb service on and around campus from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 a.m.

UMd. Police Walking Escorts: Operates 24/7 for locations on or near campus.
