2 Men Arrested in Connection With Reported Robbery Attempt at Knife Point

A University of Maryland student reported that Bryan Kim of Baltimore intended to rob him early Thursday morning near campus, police say.

Two men were arrested and charged today in connection with an alleged attempted robbery at knife point that occurred early Thursday morning near the campus, according to a press statement from university police.

According to the media release:

At 2 a.m. Thursday, a student reported to a police aide that he was just approached by someone with a knife on Lehigh Road who intended to rob him. The victim described the suspect and the vehicle, and the information was transmited to police.

Police located the car near the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and Regents Drive, and the victim positively identified the passenger, Bryan Kim, 22, of Baltimore, as the man who allegedly tried to rob him.

Kim was arrested and handed seven charges, including attempted armed robbery, first-degree assault and concealing a deadly weapon.

The driver of the vehicle, Joon Park, 21, of Centreville, VA, was also arrested and handed six charges, including accessory to attempted armed robbery.

Both Kim and Park's charges include possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, due to illegal drugs and contraband found inside the vehicle.

Neither Park nor Kim are affiliated with UMd. The victim was not hurt in the incident.

University Police Chief David B. Mitchell said in the press statement that the arrests were the result of quick action by the victim and police aide, and the vigilence of the patrol officer who located the vehicle.

This comes two days after another robbery report, when two suspects allegedly stole the purses of two UMd. students near the Graduate Hills Apartments. There were no serious injuries, but.
