Tonight: DUI Checkpoint on University Blvd.

County police will conduct sobriety checks near the Lewisdale, Adelphi, and Langley Park neighborhoods.

Friday, July 13, could be an unlucky day for local motorists driving under the influence. That evening, officers from the Prince George's County Police Department's Special Operations Division will be manning a DUI checkpoint from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., Saturday, along the 2400 block of University Boulevard, near the neighborhoods of Lewisdale, Adelphi and Langley Park.

This is the second such DUI checkpoint in this area since the evening of Friday, June 21, 2012, .

I got a checkpoint for you right here. Today is recycle day for the Lewisdale neighborhood. And some of my neighbors do recycle. There are CASES of empty CORONA bottles, as well as other beer containers, stacked in front of the house waiting for pickup. All the homes in my neighborhood are small (1200 sq. foot) single family dwellings NOW containing many Illegal apartments. And it is not by coincidence that these homes have the largest alcohol put out for recycle collection day. SOOOO you figure these neighbors have to come home and go back out at some point. Do you think they are always sober? The broken liquor bottle glass is abundant on the streets and sidewalks here. Many children have to walk these blocks since they are the closest ones to the Lewisdale Elementary School. I can't walk my dogs for fear of injury. I wish the police would set up checkpoints at just about every street with egress to Lewisdale. Many of my neighbors have had their automobiles struck while parked in front of their homes....and perhaps a direct correlation, many, many banged up (on all sides) cars are parked all over the place. And I do mean all over the place! So there will be an OBVIOUS checkpoint ahead. I hope the police have officers watching for those cars that dive off of University Blvd. and into Lewisdale for escape from being "checked". I'll take the heads up and watch my parked car.
