Swimming Student Sexually Assaulted

A woman swimming in a fountain early Saturday morning on the University of Maryland, College Park, campus was sexually assaulted, wusa9.com reported

The woman was one of a group of female students swimming in their underwear in a fountain on the McKeldin Mall just after midnight on Saturday morning, police said.

The swimmers had placed their clothing and property alongside the fountain, and a group of about eight to 10 males and females took the clothing and property.

"One of the victims also reported that one of the males had grabbed her buttocks during the incident. The group of thieves fled from the area, leaving a trail of the victims' property, which ended near the Mowatt Lane Garage. While a good portion of the victims' property has been recovered, there are still a few items that have not been recovered," police said, according to wusa9.com.

The incident—defined by police as a "sex assault and theft"—is still under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 301-405-3555.
