Three Arrested in College Park Armed Robbery

Police said the suspects—two of them juveniles—attacked a University of Maryland student Sunday outside of Shanghai Café.

Three suspects were arrested Sunday in College Park after attacking and robbing a University of Maryland student, according to Prince George's County police.

Officers responded to the area of Shanghai Café (7409 Baltimore Ave.) around 3 a.m. Sunday following a report of an armed robbery in progress.

Police said the three men had approached the victim and punched him with metal knuckles. They allegedly rummaged through his pockets before making off with his cell phone and wallet.

Officers arriving on scene spotted the suspected robbers, who police said were attempting to flee. All three were caught and taken into custody.

Authorities identified one suspect as Edgar Umberto Hernandez, 20, of the 5900 block of Nicholson Street in Riverdale. A 17-year-old and a 15-year-old from Riverdale were also arrested.

All three were charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, and additional counts. Both juveniles were charged as adults.

The victim was treated on scene for injuries to his face and head, according to police.
